In recent years the implementation of the BS7909 has grown, which is only ever going to be of benefit to the event industry. Working with the BS7671 wiring regulations the BS7909 sets out more practical standards for safe working practices in the temporary power sector.
The BS7909 is an important standard to work towards for all production companies and venues, on any event a certificate should be provided to ensure that the electrical installation is installed properly and is tested to ensure safety. Many venues across the UK are now asking for BS7909 certification as standard, including many of the unique venues of London.
In my previous role as Senior Project Manager for Hawthorn Theatrical/Encore I specialised in providing support to other staff in temporary power requirements. I was the lead project manager on their Buckingham Palace project, designing, installing and testing the annual Garden Parties and Summer Openings for over five years.
